The Guild of Television Cameramen

I work extensively with The Guild of Television Cameramen, having been a member from 2011, initially volunteering as their Social Media Officer, and subsequently taking on the Forum Administrator role. I was a member of Council from 2013-14, before more recently stepping into a broader IT Administrator role, looking after application development and email administration, in addition to my original roles.

I have represented the Guild at industry exhibitions, assisting the Sponsorship Manager in his networking with sponsors, as well as talking to prospective members. I've also helped members more directly, for example through the running of workshops based on their presence on social media.

In 2014 I was a part of the team that helped to stream the annual awards ceremony for the first time in the 40 year history, a milestone for the organisation. This live video stream was accompanied by realtime coverage on social media.

IT Professional

I am a qualified IT professional currently working in the systems engineering field, holding both a degree in Computer Networking Technology and Professional Membership of the BCS.

I have experience with Linux (from CentOS/RHEL to Debian and Ubuntu) and the Microsoft Windows range of products (Server 2008R2 onwards), as well as virtualisation products such as VMware ESXi and Workstation.

My programming work mostly revolves around PHP/MySQL with HTML5/jQuery/Bootstrap frontends, but more recently has involved Java, MongoDB, and other related technologies.

Media Professional

I am a freelance PSC cameraman, with experience in other roles such as camera assistant, vision mixer, and stream management. I have operated a variety of cameras in handheld and shoulder configurations, and have some experience with lightweight jibs.

Fast-paced live programmes are a personal favourite, especially music shows and sports events, with previous jobs including the Rugby SuperLeague Magic Weekend for French TV, as well as for MCFC's CityTV.

I'm an Associate Member of The Guild of Television Cameramen, and take an active part in the running of the organisation.

Student Television

Whilst studying at UCLan, I spent two years working for PSTV as their Head of Technical. This involved all aspects of technical management, from organising crews, to booking out the kit required to cover each unique event. I also worked as Deputy Station Manager for the second year, encouraging students to get involved, and assist crew on their own projects.

In 2014, a project that I led and developed gave PSTV their first ever NaSTA award, Highly Commended for Best Technical.

During the two years of my involvement, the number of programmes streamed to students increased ten-fold, and introduced new technologies and shooting styles to enhance the overall quality. Some programmes were seen by hundreds of people across the world at partner campuses, one example being the UCLan SU Elections 2013.
